Short Description

The course on "Computer Physics" is focused on all aspects of using computer and the internet in physical labs, except those aspects related to the hardware and computerized data acquisition systems (these aspects are considered in specialized courses at the 3rd and 4th-year study). The audience is 1st and 2nd year students of Physics. The course covers (i) basics of programming (Visual C, Delphi), scientific graphics, basics of numerical methods, and using computer algebra (Mathematica); (ii) scientific word-processing (TeX/LaTeX, Word) and preparation of papers and presentations; (iii) using of the internet; (iv) extensive training of using (i) and (ii) for solving various problems of physics. It consists of a short lecture course, seminars, and a large number of computer labs.

A student who passed the course must show practical skills in solving various problems of physics on a computer using either programming environments like Visual C or Delphi or packages of computer algebra and be able to prepare results of his/her own research for the specific project given it the end of the course personally to each student in the form of written thesis and oral presentation.
